potentially my new favourite band. they’re like the love child of old brand new vocals and explosions in the sky. if you like post-rock, melow indie, ambient stuff… if you like amazing music, then you’ll love these guys. (NO IT’S NOT HARDCORE, I LIKE OTHER TYPES OF MUSIC TOO)
so you may have noticed that i haven’t posted anything pretty much all week… chances are you didn’t notice though.
anyways, the reason for this, originally was because i had nothing new to update because i was in a weird mood and kinda bummed out. well that weird mood ended up being some sort of cold/flu thing and i ended up not going to school on thursday and staying in bed all weekend.
to be fair though, i went to a show on friday in oakville. now, in my defense, the opening band was a few of my old friends who i used to both play in a band with and play shows with. i hadn’t seen these guys in a while and it was a great night hanging out with all of them, band members among others. i met a few cool new people too and saw a great new band. i also found out this band isn’t so new, i’m just out of the loop, they renamed themselves a while ago though. i knew of their older project, didn’t think much of it. but counterparts is a really great southern ontario band.
oakville on the other hand, is whack. good bands, rad friends, whack kids haha. oh and a whack dad too.
anyways, back to the point. i’m sick so i’m in bed so i have nothing to really update on BUT hopefully tonight i’ll finally upload the rest of my fisheye shots. i’ve got around 20 left and i’m just being a lazy idiot.
as for now though, i need to go do two readings for my lit class i have at 9:30 tomorrow morning.

played the show at siesta last night. i highly recommend checking them out if they’re playing anywhere near you.
so i spent this weekend downtown sleeping on a couple of friend’s floors and (if you read my last post) i totally punk’d out on the photo thing. i’ll give a synopsis of the weekend.
so friday night i went downtown and hungout with some friends from u of t. we spent the night injust watching tv and having a good time. i had asked my friend renee if i could borrow her camera on saturday for the show saturday night, that way i didn’t have to go buy my own camera. i also found a bunch of film in my backpack so i didn’t have to go buy new film either. so i was pretty much set, saturday i was going to wake up, go to renee’s, hangout for a bit, get the camera then go hangout with my friend jordan who was visiting from back home, then go the show.
so i wake up on saturday… then fall asleep again, then shower… then lay around. needless to say, i didn’t leave my friend’s place until like 4. so i never made it to renee’s and i never got the camera (sorry!!!). then i went to hangout with jordan, who is a really great artist and if he doesn’t get into ocad next year i’ll actually be so surprised.
anyways, i figure i’ll just use the fisheye at the show. i get there, the lighting is shit. not dark enough for extended exposure (similar to the titan and buried inside shots) but not light enough for no flash. so i just decide against shooting all together.
so in the end… giant fail but GREAT show.

so i found out a few days ago that wayfarer, a band from my hometown, is playing at siesta on saturday. i’ve been planning to go to this and shoot their set in film. i figured it’d be cool to do my first show entirely in film with a band that i know and have seen a few times, that way if i fuck it up then there’s no major loss in the way of photos.
well i just checked facebook and found the event and there’s 2 or 3 hardcore bands from the states headlining and pretty much everyone and their mother is attending this show. so i’m sort of scared now. i mean, i could shoot the whole show in film, take like 2-4 rolls, maybe a roll per band, and see what i come up with… or i could borrow a digital from someone and actually get shots that i can tell the outcome of.
i’m taking my fisheye regardless and i intend to buy a new SLR tomorrow from henry’s. so i’ll have the equipment to do film all night… it’s just a big risk. if you’re one of my close friends who knows how to contact me and you’re reading this… tell me what you think i should do? i need some advice.
but the upside to all of this, i’ll probably have some new stuff going up on my flickr from this regardless of my method of capturing. so hooray for that.
help me out!

p.s. if you have a digital SLR of any sort and live in the toronto area, contact me if you wouldn’t mind lending me your camera. i’ll buy you lunch or something. external flash would rule too.
so i am done my first week of second semester(i have fridays off) and i wanted to just give a bit of an update on my classes.
first off, liberal studies, my literature/philosophy/art history super class that i have 3 times a week all year. well, i didn’t study for the midterm… at all. seriously, i didn’t even glance at notes and the notes i had weren’t even my own because i barely took notes all semester. well i got a 58 on that exam so my mark has now dropped down to a 70 which is fine with me. i like the class but the readings are a bit demanding. this is unimportant though. on to the fun stuff!
time based media. i would like to start by saying i’m excited for this class but so confused. it is a class about media arts or “new media” as the prof kept referring to it. the projects all seem very interesting but SO open ended… to a point where i can’t think of an idea. if someone says “you can make anything you want as long as you can explain how it is a kinetic sculpture” then you start to have a brain flood. the prof is awesome though and i love the web and video project opportunities.
photo, which i had in the morning today, was a bit of a let down. the projects are exciting but aren’t very experimental. there’s also no darkroom access with that class. i think i’m going to switch out of the narrative photo class and into the experimental photo class because they get to do things like make a pinhole camera and other fun stuff. i feel like my appreciation for film over digital would be lost in the narrative class where as it would be appreciated in experimental photo.
finally, print. my excitement for this class is through the roof. i’ve been waiting all year to have a class that is entirely about print. i have worked print into pretty much every class that i’ve had (including form and structure) and now it is finally time to be put in my element. the projects are all very interesting as well. since the class is creative process and research, we have to spend the first month of class collecting research and doing visual studies of a chosen topic. then we are going to do 3 print projects. one in the next 2 weeks as sort of an intro to print methods, then 2 print projects based on our big research assignment. oh, and the research assignment is concluded by making a presentation, movie, book, performance etc. i think i’m going to do a book because that gives me room to draw and maybe include some text work. i mean, i’m doing videos in time based media and i’ve never been big on performance art.
so in general, i’m really happy with my second semester. it’s alot lighter of a work load than my first semester was so i’m thinking i’ll try to find a job. i’m thinking camera store so i can get free developing for all of my film and discounts on cameras.
last but not least, i’m probably going to buy an old SLR tomorrow. i’ve needed a solid camera for a while now and i can rent digitals from my school so i think film is the way to go on this one. hooray for analog!

p.s. i’ll finish uploading my fisheye stuff to my flickr in the next couple of days and post up another link reminder when i do. also, i’m hopefully going to shoot the band wayfarer this weekend so expect some more shots of them going up soon. i’ll try to include some process photos of my first print project too. so stay tuned!
so here it is, the start of my tumblr. i’ve been thinking about starting this for a while but i wanted to wait until i got my flickr updated, my behance running and get some film developed so i could start this off with a bang. since all of those things are done now, i figured it is about time to get this started.
so this will be my way of communicating with the world about my life, my art and eventually my music (you’ll find out someday). so whenever i come out with a new photo set, i’ll post it here, when i put a new project on my behance, i’ll post it here, when i’ve been doing some writing i might post it here. i might also pass off some cool posts on some interesting sites i follow.
so i’m going to try to update this regularly and hopefully create something interesting that someone out there might want to read.
thanks for stopping by, check back soon :)
